Well here I am.but I give up, I am a mess of thousands of kinst.zips and kinst.chds all over my desktop, in the trash with 4 different versions of MAME on my Mac and I am getting quite sick of this.
KILLER INSTINCT ROM DOESNT WORK UPDATE
I tried to update the chd file with the chdman utility and this seemed to work correctly but 77u2a still beeps on KI's blue start up screen it gets to the blue screen and then it makes a 'BEEP' and just stays on that blue screen. This still lists the kinst.chd as 'unknown' but strangely permits you to start the game, everything feels much more responsive but.
KILLER INSTINCT ROM DOESNT WORK DOWNLOAD
Hmm.maybe I was just unlucky with that so I go and download 77u2a instead. This version comes with it's own Hard Disk Images folder and I can put kinst.chd in there, I can put it with a folder called kinst in Hard Disk Images, I can put it anywhere, i can mess about with making aliases all over the place (as I read someone had some success doing that) but it doesn't matter because MAME won't see the chd file or rather it describes it as 'unknown' when selecting mini-audit and claims it is missing when you go to run the game. Again like my first version of MAME, NOTHING will get it to see the chd file. Ok so I thought, lets get an older version of MAME and see if it's any better. (I noticed 0.87b had created 2 diff files as well, one in Hard Disk Images and one in kinst folder inside Hard Disk Images)Īnyway more reading later, seems that KI has a slow bug in MacMAME 87b according to the Wiki here. ok getting better but not playable and still no sound and the cut video scenes and intro were still painfully slow. Until I had done this MAME itself was horribly unresponsive like it had locked up entirely but was just running really really really slow.Īnd KI was now more like 4-8 fps with occasionally what looks like up to about 20 or 30 if the characters are caught on the edge of the screen and the backgrounds are not scrolling, or especially if 1 character is knocked high and off the screen it would speed up greatly. A bit more reading later and found that you can enable cheats and take the overclock of CPUs right down and this helped quite a bit. Ok I heard it was slow with MAME but I didn't realise it was that slow. At about 1 frame every 2 seconds and no sound. Great it sees the chd file and after getting another rom set from different location (it was moaning it was missing u98-l15d) all was well and it ran. So off I go and download the latest MacMAME 0.87b. Ok, so I thought well maybe it just doesn't work in that version of MAME. I actually had an old version of MAME (0.66) and although KI was recognized it refused to run as it just wouldn't see the chd file no matter where I put it. I got everything that is needed to run Killer Instinct (romset/kinst.chd etc). Can anyone help this driving me round the bend.
